The political machine development can be traced to the immigrant influx and the need to consolidate political support and get quick registration. The spoil system resulted from the tendency for winning candidates appointing members of his political campaign and party to important political office.due to the authoritative nature of political machines, and the informal aspects of the spoil system, rampant corruption beheld government. It reached its peak in the administration of Grant, where multiple scandals beheld government and were blamed on the spoil system.
