DNA is considered as the genetic material of all the living organism except some viruses. DNA is converted into RNA and finally into the protein product by the process of translation.
The information is stored in the DNA to form a particular protein product. The nucleotides sequences (adenine, guanine, thymine and cytosine) determines which amino acid is coded by the sequence of the codons and thus ultimately the protein product.
