Suppose that the string of A nucleotides following the inverted repeat in a rho-independent terminator was deleted but that the

inverted repeat was left intact. How will this deletion affect termination? What will happen when RNA polymerase reached this region?

Answer: is seen below

Explanation:

Termination will not take place if the strings of A nucleotides following an inverted repeat of rho- independent termination ( which forms an hairpin structure)were deleted. Although, RNA polymerase may pause briefly at the hairpin, the presence of A- U base pairs is needed to destabilize the DNA - RNA interaction and to end transcription. If the string A nucleotides is not present, then transcription of RNA polymerase will continue.

Which statement is true about the total number of chromosomes in most eukaryotic cells? A. Chromosome numbers vary widely. B. Pl
svet-max [94.6K]

Answer: The correct answer is- A. Chromosome numbers vary widely.

Chromosome can be described as thread like structure that is composed of DNA ( deoxyribonucleic acid) and possesses genes ( segment of DNA coding for a particular protein) on it.

Eukaryotic cells ( such as plant cell, animal cell) have variable number of chromosomes.

For instance, human beings have 23 pairs of chromosomes whereas it is different in plants depending on the species.

Thus, A) is the right answer.

The blank process helps fuel your metabolism with oxygen
Natali [406]

Answer:

Cellular Respiration

Explanation:

Metabolism is the sum of chemical reactions taking place in the living organisms. Cellular respiration is one such metabolic process.  Cellular respiration takes place in in the all organisms in which respiratory substrate such as glucose is oxidised completely in presence of oxygen to produce carbon dioxide, water and energy (ATP). Cellular respiration begins in cytoplasm and completes in the mitochondria of the cell.  The energy is used to do work.

The oxidation reaction is given below:

         C₆H₁₂O₆+ 6O₂ → 6CO₂+ 6H₂O + Energy

16. List three reasons why the young earth could not support life.
xxTIMURxx [149]
1. Early earth had no ozone layer, which means it was most likely extremely hot.
2. Young earth had no oxygen and life needs oxygen in order to survive.
3. There where so many natural disasters happening all the time, like volcanic eruptions and constant impact with meteorites and asteroids.
-Extra one (4. Earth originally had no ocean and water. Oceans eventually formed from the water vapor released from the volcanic eruptions, but before that there was nothing.)

QveST [7]

An ecologist studying plants in the desert performed the following experiment. She staked out two identical plots, which included a few sagebrush plants and numerous small, annual wildflowers. She found the same five wildflower species in roughly equal numbers on both plots. She then enclosed one of the plots with a fence to keep out kangaroo rats, the most common grain-eaters of the area. After two years, to her surprise, four of the wildflower species were no longer present in the fenced plot, but one species had increased dramatically. The control plot had not changed. Using the principles of ecology, propose a hypothesis to explain her results.

Explanation:

  • This example highlights the impact of plant predation on species selection. In the fenced off plot animal predation is not a factor on plant selection.
  • In this case plants will compete for resources only with each other and in this case one plant had a selective advantage over the other 3 species of plants. In the plot exposed to animal predation the ratio of the four species is equal.
  • This is likely do to an increased preference of animals for the plant species that dominates in the fenced off plot and/or anti-animal predation tactics by the other three species.

a.Hypothesis: kangaroo rats are keystone species

-Reintroduce kangaroo rats (and the other locally extinct species)

-Should observe equilibrium re-established

b.Hypothesis: kangaroo rats exert top-down control on community

-Reintroduce kangaroo rats (and other locally extinct species)

-Increase kangaroo rat population in other plot

-Decrease (but don't eliminate) kangaroo rat population in other plot

c.Hypothesis: Locally extinct species inferiorly competed with the extant species of plant

-Remove surviving species from other plot (and remove kangaroo rat population)
