According to the American Academy of Pediatric, auditory screening should be performed in the early months of life (below 6 months) because early detection of hearing loss within this age bracket enables for early intervention service. This intervention service involves meeting professionals who would help the family and the child learn to communicate effectively or getting a hearing device for the child (e.g. Hearing aids) where necessary. Support groups are also made available for the guardians of the child.
