The most significant difference would be that male reproductive system is outside of the body because the creation of sperm need to be controlled at a specific temperature, while the female reproductive system is inside a female body. They are similar because they both have a organ that produces the actual sex cell and there's a tube that it will travel through.

This translates to only several hundred eggs produced during her lifetime. The male reproductive has literally millions of sperm cells available daily, as opposed to a single egg per month.
