Does listening to music while studying hinder students’ learning? Two AP® Statistics students designed an experiment to find out

. They selected a random sample of 30 students from their medium-sized high school to participate. Each subject was given 10 minutes to memorize two different lists of 20 words, once while listening to music and once in silence. The order of the two word lists was determined at random; so was the order of the treatments. The difference in the number of words recalled (music—silence) was recorded for each subject. Which test should they use to determine if listening to music while studying hinders learning?

Answer:

The test to be used is paired t-test.

Step-by-step explanation:

The dependent t-test (also known as the paired t-test or paired-samples t-test) compares the two means of associated groups to conclude if there is a statistically significant difference between the two means.

We use the paired t-test if we have two measurements on the same item, person or thing. We should also use this test if we have two items that are being measured with a unique condition.

For instance, an experimenter tests the effect of a medicine on a group of patients before and after giving the doses.

The assumptions made to perform a paired t-test are:

 1. The data are not discreet .
 2. The data i.e., the difference, follows a normal distribution .
 3. Each individual from the whole population has a same possibility of being selected.

In this case, a random sample of 30 students were selected.

Each student was asked to memorize two different lists of 20 words within 10 minutes, once with music and once without music.

The mean difference in the number of words recalled in both the sets (1: with music, 2: without music) was recorded.

The experiment performed was a matched pair experiment and a paired t-test would be used to perform the analysis to determine whether listening to music while studying hinder students’ learning.

Answer:

If the length is 50 yd, the width is 60 yd.

If the length is 40 yd, the width is 75 yd.

If the length is 48 yd, the width is 62.5 yd.

If the length is 36 yd, the width is 83.33 yd.

The length and the width vary inversely because when the length decreased the width increased

Step-by-step explanation:

The area of any rectangle A = L × W, where

 • L is its length
 • W is its width

The relation is direct proportion if the quotient of two quantity equals constant (y/x = k, when y and x increased) and inverse if the product of the two quantity equals constant (yx = k, when x increased y decreased and vice versa)

∵ The area of the rectangular plot of land = 3000 yards²

∴ A = 3000

∵ Its length = 50 yards

∴ L = 50

→ Substitute them in the rule above to find W

∵ 3000 = 50 × W

→ Divide both sides by 50 to find W

∴ 60 = W

∴ The width of the plot is 60 yards

∵ Its length = 40 yards

∴ L = 40

→ Substitute them in the rule above to find W

∵ 3000 = 40 × W

→ Divide both sides by 40 to find W

∴ 75 = W

∴ The width of the plot is 75 yards

∵ Its length = 48 yards

∴ L = 48

→ Substitute them in the rule above to find W

∵ 3000 = 48 × W

→ Divide both sides by 48 to find W

∴ 62.5 = W

∴ The width of the plot is 62.5 yards

∵ Its length = 36 yards

∴ L = 36

→ Substitute them in the rule above to find W

∵ 3000 = 36 × W

→ Divide both sides by 36 to find W

∴ 83. 33 = W

∴ The width of the plot is 83.33 yards

∵ The area is a constant value

∵ A = LW

→ The product of L and W equals the constant value, can you discover

that from the values of L and W

∴ The length and the width of the rectangular plot vary inversely

Factoring by grouping

x^2 + 4y + 2x + 2xy
pls explain with work too!!!
Gennadij [26K]

{x}^{2} + 4y + 2x + 2xy

We can factorise this expression by grouping. First let us arrange it in this way

= {x}^{2} + 2xy + 2x + 4y

Let us bracket them like this:

= ( {x}^{2} + 2xy) + (2x+ 4y)

In the first bracket portion, take x as common and in the second expression, take 2 as common.

= x(x + 2y) + 2(x + 2y) \\ = (x + 2)(x + 2y)

Answer:

(x + 2)(x + 2y)

Hope you could understand.

If you have any query, feel free to ask.
