The pH of solutions is an important chemical property. Oxygen is much more electronegative than hydrogen. Both shared electrons in an oxygen-to-hydrogen bond tend to spend more time with the oxygen atom than with hydrogen. Although the vast majority of water molecules remain intact in liquid water, at any given moment a few individual hydrogen atoms succumb to the pressure of the electronegative oxygen and lose their hold on both shared electrons. When this happens, the covalent bond is broken and a hydrogen ion (positive charge because it lost its electron to oxygen, shorthand = H+) is released. The remaining part of the original water molecule is called a hydroxide ion (negative charge because it kept an extra electron, shorthand = OH-). Although present at very low levels in solution, H+ and OH- ions can have enormous effects on the properties of a solution, especially when they are not in balance. In pure water, every hydroxide ion that forms creates a hydrogen ion, so there are equal numbers of anions and cations. If a solute is added to water, however, this balance can change.

Which term describes the perception of the body’s movement through space?
Bingel [31]

Answer:

Option C

Explanation:

Complete question

Which term describes the perception of the body's movement through space?

A. nociception

B. neurasthenia

C. kinesthesia

D. dimensionality

Solution

The word Kinesthesia is made up of two words kinetic and anesthesia. On one side kinetic means movement while anesthesia means feeling, sensation, visions etc.

Whenever a person senses his/her body movement through space or any other kind of physical bodily movement or action, he/she actually faces Kinesthesia. This is also related with the Charles bell concept of sixth sense through which one could perceive sensation of static position or velocity of the movement

Hence, option C is correct

Some protists can reproduce both sexually and asexually. What's a major advantage of each?
Neporo4naja [7]

Answer:

(A). Sexual reproduction increases genetic diversity, and asexual reproduction can be more rapid.

Explanation:

Sexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction, which involves formation of new organisms by combination of genetic information from two organisms of different sexes. The major advantage of sexual reproduction is to develop genetic diversity as new organism is produced by mixing up genetic material of both the parents.

On the other hand, asexual reproduction involves formation of new organisms from a single parent having identical genetic makeup as present in parent cell. One of the major advantage of asexual reproduction is to produce high number of offspring in less time as it is more rapid than sexual reproduction.

Thus, the correct answer is option (A).

nexus9112 [7]

Answer:

The correct answer is - B. Lichens.

Explanation:

Lichens are one of the pioneer species that can grow on bare rock such as moraine and help make soil for further ecological succession and making ground for other species.

Breaking the bare rocks to convert into the soil is part of the primary succession. Lichens are colonized over these rocks and they contain acid which leads to the breakdown of the moraine and other rocks.
