The Progressive Era was one in which several Progressive presidents implemented changes that would shape the government and America in general. For example, social welfare programs started to develop during this time. This meant that the government implemented laws and policies that would help citizens who work out of work, injured/disabled, or had little income. Along with this, Progressives also increased the size of the government. This included the implementation of the 16th amendment which allowed for federal income taxes to be collected.
