Out of the given choices, the factors contributed to growing tensions in Europe on the eve of World War I are as follows:

 • Countries built massive armed forces to protect their interests.
 • Countries made promises to protect one another if attacked.
 • Countries competed with one another to build worldwide empires.
 • Countries encouraged strong feelings of devotion to the homeland.

Answer: Option A, C, D, and E

Explanation:

The period before World War I actually began was characterized by countries trying to establish their dominance as the world powers. Countries like the U.S and Great Britain stood with each other whereas Germany and Russia stood against each other.

The respective national-level leaders of many countries motivated young men of their countries to strive hard in order to prove that their country is the most powerful. The desire to establish dominance resulted in violent outcomes which ended into World War I.

Why wasn't the roman empire able to implement a direct democracy?
s344n2d4d5 [400]
Mostly because the Roman empire was a hugely vast empire in time where the internet or any other form of fast communication possibilities didn't exist yet. For this reason, it would be highly unpractical for Rome to rely on having direct democracy and each person giving his vote on every aspect of life.
