Hello there,

Simply plug in -2 for every b you see.
(-2)²+9(-2)+3
4-18+3
-14+3
-11

Hope this helps!

Simply substitute b = -2 into the expression of b^2 + 9b + 3:

All the b in the expression will become -2.

(-2)^2 + 9(-2) + 3
{The power of 2 means the number is multiplied twice}
= (-2)(-2) + (-18) + 3
{Negative number times negative number will give you positive number}
= (4) - 18 + 3
= 4 - 18 + 3
= 4 + 3 - 18
= 7 - 18
= -11

Hope this helps! :)

Answer:

A) what did the student do wrong, explain why they are incorrect

B) Demonstrate and explain the correct way to answer the question.

Lauren says that two expressions 3x+4(2x+5) and 6x +5x +5 are equivalent. Simplify the expressions to determine whether or not Lauren is correct. Substitute a value for x to see if she is right.

3x+8x+20 = 6x+5x+5

11x+20 = 11x+5

She is wrong

Students answer: She is correct because both equal 11x +5. I substituted x=2 and got 27 for both

She is wrong because 27 will be the answer for ' 11x+5' only. The correct method should be

x=-15

If each light fixture on a job requires 4 lamps and each room requires 16 fixtures, how many lamps will be required for 6 rooms?
kaheart [24]

Answer:

384 lamps

Step-by-step explanation:

This is simply a multiplication problem. From the question, we know that each fixture needs 4 lamps with a single room needing 16 fixtures.

The number of lamps required by each room is thus 16 * 4 = 64 lamps

Now, the total number of lamps required by 6 rooms is thus 64 * 6 = 384 lamps
