The British tried to impose taxes on the colonies because King George III had spent a lot of money on the French and Indian War. The colonies were outraged. One of the most famous outcries was the Boston Tea Party (taxed tea was shipped out and a bunch of colonists dressed up as indians decided to throw the tea into the ocean)
