Here's the first part:

y = 8x - 9  --(i)
y = 4x - 1 -- (ii)

then in eqn( i),
 4x - 1 = 8x -9   (from eqn( ii) )
 -1 +9 = 8x -4x
8 = 4x
x =2

then in eqn (i),
y = 8*2 -9
   = 16 -9
   = 7

The 2nd part:

When these two equations are graphed, at point (2,7) the lines representing the two equations intersect because these values (2,7) satisfies the given equations.

Ann's car can go 312 miles on 8 gallons of gas. During a drive last weekend, Ann used 3 gallons of gas. How far did she drive
larisa [96]
The answer is 117 miles and if you were given the miles intead multiply 117 (or whatever the number would havw been) by 8 then divid th product by 312 to get the amount of gas used

2x^2=9-3x <br> Find the factors
d1i1m1o1n [39]

Answer:

x = -3, $ \frac{3}{2} $

Step-by-step explanation:

The given quadratic equation is: $ 2x^2 = 9 - 3x $

This can be written as: $ 2x^2 + 3x - 9 = 0 $

To solve a quadratic equation of the form $ ax^2 + bx + c = 0 $ we use the formula:

           $ x = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}{2a} $

Here, a = 2; b = 3; c = - 9

Therefore, the roots of the equation are:

$ x = \frac{- 3 \pm \sqrt{9 - 4(2)(-9)}}{2(2)} $

$ \implies x = \frac{-3 \pm \sqrt{81}}{4} $

$ \implies x = \frac{-3 \pm 9}{4} $

We get two values of 'x', viz.,

x = $ \frac{-3 + 9}{4} $ and $ \frac{- 3 - 9}{4} $

$ \implies x = \frac{6}{4} \hspace{5mm} \& \hspace{5mm} \frac{-12}{4} $

⇒ x = -3, 3/2

Since the factors of the quadratic equation is asked, we write it as:

(x + 3)(x - $ \frac{3}{2} $) = 0

because, if (x - a)(x - b) are the factors of a quadratic equation, then 'a' and 'b' are its roots.

Multiply (x + 3) and (x - $ \frac{3}{2} $ to see that this indeed is the given quadratic equation.

Rewrite the rational exponent as a radical by extending the properties of integer exponents. 2 7/8 divided by 2 1/4
VladimirAG [237]
We know the rule of change: a b/c= (ac+b):c
So we have 2 7/8= (2x8+7):8= 23/8
and the second: 2 1/4 = (2x4+1):4= 9/4
We do the division: 23/8: 9/4= 23/8 x 4/9= (23x4):(8x9)= 23/18= 1  5/18
