John Dewey was a philosopher who was born in Vermont and considered "the father of renewed education."
Its ideals said that the education given to the population was not adequate to prepare people to live in a democracy.
He also believed that learning was more effective with first-person experiences and with resources that facilitate this practice. He wanted the children to become familiar with the activities and thus learn, instead of teaching them things that are unfamiliar to them.
