Explanation:

Theory of Motivation can be defined as the any theory that tries to find out or deduce the reason why human beings act or do things the way they do. Theory of Motivation finds out what motivates human beings to achieve a particular goal.

We have various theories of motivation. They are:

A. Evolutionary theory: This theory explains how human beings are driven to react to a particular situation based on how they feel or their emotions. Examples are : Crying when upset, going for a walk when restless.

B. Drive- reduction theory: This theory explains what drives or motivates people to fulfill some biological needs which occurs as a result of the build up of tension in a person. Some of this biological needs that needs to be met due to the build of tension are: Hunger, Thirst, e.t.c

C. Arousal Theory: This states that people are motivated to perform action in other to reach and maintain a high level of psychological arousal. Examples includes: seeking out relationships with peers or significant others, going on outings with friends.

D. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory: Human beings have some basic needs which we were born with. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory explains and helps us to understand that human beings are motivated by their needs. The basic needs are 5 in number and they include Physiological, safety, social, esteem and self actualization needs. Examples of these needs are : food, shelter, sex, family , affection, independence, status, self fulfillment e.t.c.
