Why was the addition of new states to the union a point of contention for members of Congress? They thought that their influence

in Congress would be diminished with the addition of new states. They were concerned that new states would become an undue financial burden on the federal government. They were concerned that the addition of a new free or slave state would tip the balance of power.

D. They were concerned that the addition of a new free or slave state would tip the balance of power.

Explanation:

During this time, the balance between free states and slave states were crucial, if the balance between the two were tipped, that meant that they would have priority over the others. They wanted to continue to keep congressional power balanced, to avoid confrontation and negative outcomes.

At the First Battle of Bull Run:
bogdanovich [222]

Answer:

At the First Battle of Bull Run: C. Led many to believe falsely that the war would be short since the Union achieved a quick decisive victory

Explanation:

After listening to Scott’s “Anaconda Plan”, many people believed that the war would end quickly as possible because they thought the capture of Confederate capital at Richmond was only one hundred miles south of Washington.

In “Anaconda Plan”, Scott had strategized to subdue the confederate states by first strangling them in the west, by capturing New Orleans, and then blocking the southern ports along with the Eastern and gulf coasts with the help of U.S. Navy. The press had ridiculed Scott when they dubbed his anaconda plan.

Write a descriptive essay that summarizes the contributions of either Asian Americans or African Americans to
Debora [2.8K]

Answer:

The uninterrupted history of blacks in the United States began in 1619, when 20 Africans were landed in the English colony of Virginia. These individuals were not slaves but indentured servants—persons bound to an employer for a limited number of years—as were many of the settlers of European descent (whites). By the 1660s large numbers of Africans were being brought to the English colonies. In 1790 blacks numbered almost 760,000 and made up nearly one-fifth of the population of the United States.
