Nuclear energy poses security concerns due to the harmful effects of the radiation it produces.

Explanation:

Most nuclear reactors use fission to produce nuclear energy. This means larger mass atoms decompose into light atoms while releasing energy in the process. In the process radiation such as  beta or alpha particles can be produced. The particles and radiation have an ionizing effect and mean they can destroy DNA hence resulting in the mutation of living organisms. Most mutations are lethal and result in death of the organism. This is the reason it is dangerous to be close to nuclear plants in case of a disaster that results in leakage of radioactive material into the environment.
