Answer:

Species richness typically increases as one moves towards the equator.

Explanation:

Species richness reflects the total number of a species in a community. Lower latitudes closer of the equator have a tropical environment and experience less seasonal variations than the habitats at near and at the Polar Regions. The constant environmental conditions of habitats near the equator allow niche specialization to support accommodation of more number of species.

Lower latitudes near equator also have the climatic conditions to favor higher productivity. For instance, these habitats receive more solar energy which in turn favors higher productivity and contributes to greater species richness. Therefore, species richness increases as one move towards the equator.

Calculate the surface-to-volume ratio of a spherical cell 15mum in diameter and of a cell 2mum in diameter. What are the consequ
Marina CMI [18]

Answer:

For calculating the surface to volume ratio for a spherical cell,

Surface area (S) = 4πr²

Volume (V) = 4πr³ / 3

Ratio = S / V = 4πr² / 4πr³ / 3 = 3 × 4πr² / 4πr³

= 3/r

1. 15 micrometer diameter = Ratio = 3/7.5 = 0.4

2. 2 micrometer diameter = Ratio = 3/1 = 3

The cells exhibiting high surface to volume ratio shows enhanced metabolic activity. Shows easy uptake of oxygen, nutrients, water, and also the excretion of waste as they possess large surface.

Explanation:

An adaptation can be define as the changes that occur in the behavior, structure and physiology of the organism so that organism become suited to survive and reproduce in the adverse environment. Adaptation results due to evolution of the living organisms through the process of natural selection as a result of interaction of the organism with the changing or unsuitable environment.

Suffering the impact of swarms of locusts, a farmer uses an airplane to spray an insecticide over 1,500 acres of his corn field.
Crazy boy [7]

Answer:

C. a chemical treatment.

Explanation:

In this case we would be talking about a chemical treatment, since the application of an artificial compound is made, and it is not clarified that it was "ecofriendly".

On the other hand, the question clarifies that the farmer is suffering from the plague. This indicates that he is not preventing it (Integrated pest management), he is treating it.

Finally, it should not be considered as an agronomic treatment, since no real modifications are being made to the way the field is managed.
