If you’re solving for a... subtract the 8 to the other side so...
-4(a+3)- 3(2a-8) = 22.
Distribute the -4 and -3 into the parentheses (two negatives multiplied together is a positive)...
-4a-12-6a+24 = 22.
Add the constants and a’s together.
-10a + 12 = 22
Subtract 12 to the other side.
-10a = 10
Divide both sides by -10.
a = -1
Check and make sure that this answer works with the problem.
-4(-1+3)-3(-2-8)=22
-4(-2)-3(-10)=22.
-8+30=22.
22=22, the answer checks out

The fourth graders are helping raise money for the local animal shelter they hoped to raise 1,000. so far they have made 465 in
vredina [299]

The fourth graders raised 175 more than 1,000 for the local animal shelter.

First, let us identify the given.

  • Target value to raise= 1,000
  • Profit from bake sale= 465
  • Profit from t-shirt sales= 710

How much money did the fourth graders raise? The sum of the profit from the bake sale and t-shirt sales determines the total money raised.

Total money= Profit from bake sale + Profit from t-shirt sales

Total money= 465 + 710

Total money= 1175

How much more than 1,000 have the fourth graders raised? This amount is equivalent to the difference between the total money raised and the target amount, 1,000.

Total money-target amount

1175-1000= 175

Aisha bought 15 apples and oranges for $9. 0. Each orange costs $0. 50, and each apple costs $0. 65. Let x represent the number
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answer:

x + y = 15

0.5x + 0.65y = 9

Step-by-step explanation:

x = number of oranges

y = number of apples

total of apples and oranges is 15 so x + y = 15

total cost of apples and oranges is $9 so 0.5x + 0.65y = 9

Calculation

y = 15 - x

0.5x + 0.65(15-x) = 9

0.5x - 0.65x + 9.75 = 9

-0.15x = - 0.75

x = 5

y = 15 - x = 15 - 5 = 10
