Answer:

18 in^2

Step-by-step explanation:

<em>1  )The three sides of the gutter add up to 12</em>

            2x+ y = 12

<em>2)  Subtract 2x from both sides. </em>

           y = 12 — 2x

<em>3 )Find the area of the rectangle in terms of x and simplify.</em>

    Area = xy = x(12 — 2x) = -2x^2+12x = f(x)

<em>4 )  x=-b/2a</em>

     <em>x co-ordinate of the vertex= -12/2(-2)=3</em>

<em>5 )Plug in 3 for x into they equation.</em>

    y co-ordinate of the vertex= 12 — 2(3) = 6

<em>6  )  Plug in 3 for x and 6 for y.  </em>

      Area= xy = 3(6) = 18

RESULT

            18 in^2

Solve each equation using the quadratic formula. Find the exact solutions.<br><br> 6n^2 + 4n - 11
Paul [167]

Answer:

\frac{-2\pm\sqrt{70}}{6}}

Step-by-step explanation:

The quadratic formula is \frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}, where a, b, and c are values in the quadratic ax^2 + bx + c. Plug in the values to get \frac{-4\pm\sqrt{4^2-4(6)(-11)}}{2\cdot6} \implies \frac{-4\pm\sqrt{16+264}}{12} \implies \frac{-4\pm2\sqrt{70}}{12} = \boxed{\frac{-2\pm\sqrt{70}}{6}}

If an ordered pair is reflected on x-axis, it will result in opposite number of y. If the original y positive, the reflected point of y will be negative.

we can write it as
(x,y) -> reflected to x axis -> (x, -y)

Solution:
(x,-y) = (4.75, -2.25)
(x,y) = (4.75, 2.25)

The original point was (4.75, 2.25)
