The difference is that a tropical storm has wind speed up to 73mph, once it exceeds this then it become a hurricaneTornadoes are usually very short and can last up to an hour, but a hurricane can last up to three weeks. A hurricane almost always forms over sea while a strong tornado usually forms over land
