A rectangular piece of metal is 8 in. longer than it is wide. Squares with sides 3 in. long are cut from the four corners, and

the flaps are folded upward to form an open box. Which equation indicates that the volume of the box is 76 in. cubed?

Answer:

Let the width be = w

The length will be = w+8

And height = 3 inches

Volume = l x w x h

76=w(w+8)(3)

=> 76=(w^{2}+8w)3

=> 76=3w^{2}+24w

=> 3w^{2}+24w-76=0

Solving this we get w = 2.43 inch or w = -10.43 inch

Neglecting the negative value, we get w = 2.43 inches.

And l=2.43+8=10.43 inches

QUICKKKKKK 12 points !!!
Rus_ich [418]

Answer:

y = 3x + 5

Step-by-step explanation:

First start  at your y intercept (5) and use the rise to run ratio (rise 3, run 1) and there is a point on every single one.

1/3 wouldn't work because you rise 1 and go right 3 and that does not match any of the points

Using the two points first gives us a slope of 3

(1, 8) (2, 11)

m(slope) = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

m = (11 - 8)/(2 - 1)

m = 3/1

m = 3

We also know that 8 cannot be the intercept being as it is the point at x = 1. Therefore, we know that y = 3x + 5 must be the only possible answer.

4x – 9 = 2x + 15 can someone explain the system used to answer this question
PSYCHO15rus [73]
The system is comprised of two processes
that go on at the same time:

       #1). Do what ever you want to, to get 'x'
               on one side of the equation, and
               everything else on the other side.
       #2). Whatever you do to one side of the equation,
               you must immediately do the same thing to the
               other side.

That's the system.

Here's how it works:  (I can't believe you're in high school math
and you've never seen, studied, or practiced this before.)

You said that                               4x - 9  =  2x + 15
and you need to find
what 'x' is.

Subtract  2x  from each side:    2x - 9  =           15

Add  9  to each side:                 2x        =            24

Divide each side by  2 :              x        =             12 .
