Given y = log3(x + 4), what is the range?

Answer:

The range is all real numbers.

The domain is all reals numbers that are greater than -4.

Step-by-step explanation:

y=\log_3(x+4) only exists when x+4 is positive.

You can take the log of a negative or 0 number.

So x+4>0 implies x>-4.  (I just subtract 4 on both sides.)

So the domain is x>-4. You should see this also when you graph the curve that the curve only exist to the right of -4.

Now the range.  The range is where the curve exist for the y-values.

The equivalent exponent form of y=\log_3(x+4) is 3^{y}=x+4

We can solve this for x be subtract 4 on both sides:

x=3^y-4

Now here y can be anything; there are no restrictions on the exponent.

Also if you look at the graph of y=\log_3(x+4) you should see every y getting hit by the curve (look down to up; use the y-axis as a guide).

Let's think about the inverse I found above a little more (I'm going to swap x and y).

y=3^x-4.

If we look at the domain and range of this we can just swap it to get the domain and range of y=\log_3(x+4).

y=3^x-4 is an exponential function of 3^x that has been moved down 4 units.

The range since it has been moved down 4 units is (-4,\infty).

The domain of an exponential function is all real numbers.  There are no restrictions on what you can plug in for x.

So swapping these to find the domain and range of y=\log_3(x+4):

Domain:  (-4,\infty)

Range : (-\infty,\infty)

Answer:

A reasonable estimate  for the solution is the point (1.1,-1.9)

Step-by-step explanation:

we have

y=-\frac{3}{4}x-1 -----> equation A

y=2x-4 ----> equation B

Solve the system by graphing

Remember that the solution of the system of equations is the interection point both graphs

using a graphing tool

The solution is the point (1.091,-1.818)

see the attached figure

therefore

A reasonable estimate  for the solution is the point (1.1,-1.9)

Is (x − 2) a factor of f(x) = x3 − 2x2 + 2x + 3? Explain your reasoning.
Drupady [299]

Answer:

❌

Step-by-step explanation:

If (x-a) is a factor of a polynomial then the polynomial must equal zero .

Here's what I mean :

x - 2 = 0

x = 2

(2)³-2(2)²+2(2) + 3 = 0 ❌

8 - 8 +4 +3 = 0 ❌

7 = 0 ❌

A school purchases boxes of candy bars.
Cloud [144]

Answer:

$0.20 per candy bar

Step-by-step explanation:

There are 50 candy bars per box. It's costing the school $30/50=$0.60 per candy bar to buy. The school sells each candy bar for $0.80, making a profit of $0.20 per candy bar.

The sea turtle habitat at the zoo is made by connecting two large aquariums. The first aquarium is 6\text { m}6 m6, space, m lon
iren [92.7K]

First aquarium dimensions:

Length = 6 m.

Width = 4 m and

Height = 2 meter.

Second aquarium dimensions:

Length = 8 m.

Width = 9 m and

Height = 3 meter.

We know formula for volume of a cuboidal box = Length*Width*Height.

Plugging values of length, width and height of first aquarium in formula of volume. We get

V1 = 6*4*2 = 48 m^3.

Plugging values of length, width and height of second aquarium in formula of volume. We get

V2 = 8*9*3 = 216 m^3.

In order to find the total cubic meters of space do the sea turtles have in their habitat, we need to add both volumes.

Therefore, Total voulme of both aquarium = V1 +V2 = 48+216 = 264 m^3.

Therefore, total 264 m^3 cubic meters of space the sea turtles have in their habitat.

Which equation best describes the same line as y - 6 = -4(x+1)
Kobotan [32]

Answer:

y - 6 = -4(x+1) is equivalent to equation C:  y       =  -4x + 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Solve the given y - 6 = -4(x+1) for y and remove the parentheses shown:

y - 6 = -4(x+1) becomes

y       = -4(x + 1) + 6, or

y       = -4x - 4 + 6, or

y       =  -4x + 2    This is equivalent to equation C.
