It's greater. A ton=2,000lbs. 3 1/2 tons= 6,100lbs. 3 tons= 6,000lbs.

It would be greater ;
1 ton is 2000 pounds.
This means half a ton is 1000
There are 3 1/2 tons
3 tons = 6000 pounds + 1/2 = 1000 pounds
6000 + 1000 = 7000
this is greater than 6000 pounds
