Discuss how protein kinases function to produce signal amplification in a cell
Alex_Xolod [135]
A signal reaches a cell mostly in the form of a signalling molecule binding to a receptor on the cell surface. This binding activates a chain of events that amplifies the signal and transfers it inside the cell. Protein kinases phosphorylate proteins and cause their activation or deactivation, or in general modify their activity. When a signalling molecule binds to a receptor, a cascade is activated and the second messengers, such as cAMP, are synthesized. cAMP molecules activate the protein kinases, which phosphorylate specific proteins and activate them.

Jose and Fran MUST follow specific safety procedures when heating water with a Bunsen burner. The safety procedures include
8_murik_8 [283]
The following are some common procedures that we should take action of when using a bunsen burner to ensure our safety:

1. Wear safety goggles. Tie up long hair and school ties if needed. This can lower the risk of catching on fire. Put a heatproof mat underneath the Bunsen burner, put a tripod and the beaker of water for heating on top of the burner.

2. Close the air hole. Before we start up the burner, the air hole must be closed or green flame (striking back) may occur

3. light up a match or a lighter. Put it over the chimney.

4. Turn on the gas tap, you should be able to see a yellow flame now. Remove the lighter or match and open the air hole. We should have a blue flame by now.

5. the water should start to heat up. Never touch the hot beaker with bare hands.

6. When the water is heated up to the temperature they wanted to, it's time to close the air hole and turn off the gas tap.

7. If they need to move the hot beaker, use heat protection gloves

These should be the correct procedures that they should follow in order to heat the water safely.

Hope it helps!

This control of the internal environment is called homeostasis, and can be observed through the ____________ range of the body's
Semenov [28]

Answer: "homeostatic (dynamic equilibrium) range"

Homeostasis can be observed through the "homeostatic range (pre-set limits)" of the body's pH, temperature and blood glucose.

Explanation:

Homeostasis is the control of internal environment , physical and chemical conditions maintained by the living systems. A body takes control of its internal environment in spite of external forces interruptions. It can be defined as the body's defensive mechanisms.

Homeostasis is maintained and controlled by the nervous system.

Homeostasis is for optimal functioning of the internal environment such as body pH, body temperature, fluid balance, chemical ions balance (calcium, sodium and potassium) and blood glucose.

Body temperature is normally about 37.5° C (98.6° F).

Salt concentration in body fluids is normally about 0.9%

Blood glucose is normally about 10 mg/ml.

A disturbed (imbalanced body as a result of external forces) body regains its haemostasis balance by

Activating reflexes that fight the disturbance and maintaining behaviours to counteract the disturbance.
