For each of the following hypothetical studies, identify the primary caution each researcher should have when drawing conclusion

s about the relationship he or she found.
Sarah wants to determine the relationship between height and weight for high school students in the United States. She collects data on height, in inches, and weight, in pounds, for 75 randomly selected high school students in each state. She averages the values by state and performs a linear regression on the 50 state-level values. She finds a high positive linear correlation between height and weight

Answer:

Ecological correlation

Step-by-step explanation:

According to a different source, the options that come with this question are:

  • Ecological correlation
  • Extrapolation
  • Lurking variable
  • Influential observation

Sarah should be careful about the use of an ecological correlation. An ecological correlation describes two variables that are group means, as opposed to a correlation between two variables that describe individuals. In this case, Sarah did pick 75 random students in each state. However, she then obtained the height and weight means for each state, and proceeded to compare these. Therefore, Sarah is not comparing individual values, but means. It is important to notice this, because correlations at a group level can be much higher than those at the individual level.

Help answering this simple Series Question? I don't know what I did wrong!
Tatiana [17]
Looks like you just evaluated the summand for the given value of n, whereas the question is asking you to find the value of the sum for the first n terms.

Let S_k=\displaystyle\sum_{n=1}^k\frac3{(-2)^n}. Then S_k is the kth partial sum.

S_1 happens to be the first term in the series, which is why that box is marked correct:

S_1=\displaystyle\sum_{n=1}^1\frac3{(-2)^n}=\frac3{(-2)^1}=-1.5

But the next partial sum is not correct:

S_2=\displaystyle\sum_{n=1}^2\frac3{(-2)^n}=\frac3{(-2)^1}+\frac3{(-2)^2}=-0.75

and this is not the same notion as the second term (which indeed is 0.75) in the series.

7x + 4 = 7x + 4
Kazeer [188]

Infinitely many because if you subtract 7x from both sides, you get 4 = 4, which is true at all times no matter what x is.

Zane bought a pair of jeans that originally cost $56. He used a coupon for 25% off and paid 8% in sales tax. How much did he pay
sattari [20]

Answer:

$38.64

Step-by-step explanation:

so the equation needed to solve is $56*0.25 and that number is 14. Since it is a coupon you subtract 14 from 56 and end up with 42. Now multiply 0.08*42 and you got your sales tax, $3.36. now subtract that from 42 and you have your answer! Don't forget the dollar sign!

hope this helped! : )
