Decomposers break down dead plant animals, thus giving nutrients to those living things surrounding. If decomposers werent present, plants wouldnt get their nutrients therefore not being able to grow and make food. Also, dead matter and waste would be scattered around, not having any decomposers do the job. So, the environment would be damaged. As for your mold question, i do not know the answer, sorry.
