Answer:

The government promoted nationalism among its different ethnic groups.

Explanation:

In 1918, after the defeat in the Great War and the dismemberment of the Empire, the Republic of German Austria was created, being modified by the victors of the First World War and becoming Austria (the Alpine and Germanic provinces), a parliamentary republic , that had a life characterized by the permanent economic, political and social crisis. In 1934, Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss established a conservative dictatorship, which could not cope with the annexationist drive of Nazi Germany.

Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany on March 12, 1938 (through the so-called Anschluss) becoming the Ostmark of the Third Reich. Before the final defeat of Nazi Germany, much of Austria, including Vienna, was taken over by the Soviet Army. After the defeat of the Nazis, the Allied forces and the USSR occupied Austria at the end of the Second World War until 1955, the year in which the country became fully independent on condition that it remained neutral. After the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe, Austria increased its participation in European affairs. In 1995 he became a member of the European Union and in 1999 he adopted the European monetary system.
