You need to use substitution, to do so, you isolate one of the variables x or y in one equation, and then you substitute that equation into the other.

Since you only need to find x, isolate the y in one of the equations

x - 2y = 4

y = \frac{x}{2} -2

Plug this in and simplify

9x + 2y = 16

9x + 2(\frac{x}{2} -2) = 16  Distribute the 2

9x + x - 4 = 16

10x = 20

x = 2    Your answer is C

Find the values of x and y in the diagram.
mezya [45]

Answer:

x =4 and y =1

Step-by-step explanation:

Triangle ADB is an equilateral triangle that means the side a 3 unit each

so,

y + 2 = 3

y = 1

Triangle DBC is an isosceles triangle that means two legs are equal

So,

y + 2 = x -1

we already know that y+2 = 3

So,

3 = x -1

4 = x

Rewrite the equation by completing the square. 2x^2 - 3x - 5=0
Kruka [31]

Step-by-step explanation:

2[x^2 -3/2] -5

2 [ (x - 3/4)^2 - 9/16) - 5

2 (x - 3/4)^2 - 18/32 - 5

2 (x - 3/4)^2 - 1/2 - 10/2

2(x - 3/4)^2 -11/2
