A 0.07-kg lead bullet traveling 257 m/s strikes an armor plate and comes to a stop. If all of the bullet's energy is converted t

o heat that it alone absorbs, what is its temperature change?

Answer:

ΔT = 258°C

Explanation:

mass of bullet, m = 0.07 kg

velocity of bullet, v = 257 m/s

According to the energy conservation law, the kinetic energy of bullet is totally converted into form of heat energy.

let ΔT be the rise in temperature of the bullet, c be the specific heat of lead.

c = 0.128 J / g°C = 128 J/kg°C

\frac{1}{2}mv^{2}=mc\Delta T

By substituting the values

0.5 x 0.07 x 257 x 257 = 0.07 x 128 x ΔT

ΔT = 258°C

what volume of alcohol will have the same mass as 4.2m^3 of petrol? (density of alcohol 0.4kg/m^3 and petrol is 0.3kg/m^3)
Alexxx [7]

Answer:

3.15m³

Explanation:

To solve this problem, let us first find the mass of the petrol from the given dimension.

       Mass  = density x volume

Volume of petrol  = 4.2m³

Density of petrol  = 0.3kgm⁻³

       Mass of petrol  = 4.2 x 0.3  = 1.26kg

So;

      We can now find the volume of the alcohol

 Volume of alcohol = \frac{mass}{density}

Mass of alcohol  = 1.26kg

Density of alcohol  = 0.4kgm⁻³

  Volume of alcohol  = \frac{1.26}{0.4}   = 3.15m³

What is an example of total internal reflection at work?
Sunny_sXe [5.5K]
Total internal reflection occurs when a propagated wave strikes a medium boundary at an angle larger than a particular critical angle with respect to the normal to the surface. <span>Total internal reflection can be observed while swimming, when one opens one's eyes just under the water's surface. If the water is calm, its surface appears mirror-like.</span>

S Two astronauts (Fig. P 11.55 ), each having a mass M , are connected by a rope of length d having negligible mass. They are is
jek_recluse [69]

The new rotational energy of the system(RE) = mv^{2}

How this is calculated?

  • Distance of each astronaut from centre of mass(m)=d/2

  • Moment of inertia of system

          I=m(\frac{d}{2} )^{2}+ m(\frac{d}{2} )^{2}\\   I =\frac{md^{2} }{2}

  • Speed of astronauts=v

  • So, angular speed,ω =  \frac{v}{d/2}

                                         =\frac{2v}{d}

  • Rotational energy of system= \frac{1}{2}  I \omega^{2}

                where, ω= angular speed

               RE=\frac{1}{2} *\frac{md^{2} }{2}*(\frac{2v}{d})^{2} \\RE     =mv^{2}

What is rotational energy?

  • Rotational energy or angular kinetic energy is kinetic energy due to the rotation of an object and is part of its total kinetic energy.
  • Looking at rotational energy separately around an object's axis of rotation, the following dependence on the object's moment of inertia is observed
