Similes are "comparing two things using the words like or as. Metaphors are comparing two things without using the words like or as."

Example

  • She was brave as a lion! (simile)
  • Tim is a giant. (metaphor)

Hope this helps.

What does Claudius mean by the last line in Act III, Scene 3? Explain your answer using textual evidence.
Nikitich [7]

Answer:

Claudius wanted the crown, wanted Queen Gertrude as his own, and sought to fulfill his own ambition through his violent acts. He isn't sure if he can be forgiven of his sins because he is unwilling to give up any of these things. Therefore, he feels that he can't truly repent (which is to turn away from sin and head in a different direction) and that his heart is "black as death."

Nevertheless, Claudius drops to his knees to pray, hoping that "all may be well." Watching from a distance, Hamlet knows that he has his answer but can't kill him in an act of prayer, believing that doing so would send his father's murderer straight to Heaven.

Highlight clues about the setting’s role.
lisabon 2012 [21]

Answer: an eyesore, but it was a small eyesore

the consoling proximity of millionaires

white palaces

fashionable East Egg glittered

the history of the summer

Explanation:

The first clue is telling us about his house. He is saying that his house was an eyesore which means that it was bad looking for him and it was small. After that, he is saying that the house was near the houses of the millionaire's which was the comforting circumstance for him. In this first sentence with two clues, we can see that he is the character with little money and that he wants to be surrounded by rich people.

Then, he is talking about white palaces(rich people's houses) and fashionable East Egg which was the place of wealthy people. The history of the summer is telling us that everything began that summer when he drove over there.

Name 2 figure of speech from the song Where Is The Love by the Black Eyed Peas.
Zarrin [17]
"I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder"
This is a statement that uses hyperbole and used for exaggeration. No one can actually feel the weight of the entire planet Earth on their shoulders.

"Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me , got me questionin'
Where is the love (love)"

The apostrophes used here are meant to represent something that is non-existent or third-party related. <span />
