Before it, the people didn't really had much information about what is going on, so their decisions where based on very limited sources and very limited information, often biased ones. Since the electronic media emerged this has all changed.
The people suddenly were able to get information about pretty much everything that is going on, be it on local, regional, national, or global level. This gave them the chance to make better decisions based on lot of sources and lot information, as well as to be able to compare what is happening in the world and in their own country thus being able to make decision that can improve their rights, liberties, social status, and democracy as a whole.
