There are numerous reasons the colony was slow to grow and these include
the following: 1. The Colonists were more interested in continuing the
trade of fur than permanent settlement. 2. The Dutch East India company
had used all farmable land in the colony.
There was no religious freedom. The faith that everyone had to believe in/be apart of was the Russian Orthodox Church.
