  • National literature at its most superficial is the literature written by the citizens of a country. It also refers to literature that reflects the dominant ideology of a place, or displays the values that matter the most to a group of people.
  • American literature displays topics such as capitalism, freedom, independence, individualism and optimism.
  • Early colonists produced some literature that can allow us to learn about what life was like at the time, and the hardships that those settlers endured. It can also teach us about the values that the colonists held dear.
  • Persuasive writing is that which tries to convince the audience of a particular position. It is usually divided in logos, pathos and ethos.
  • People who are for mascots highlight the value of tradition. They also claim that these are not offensive, and that they are important symbols for fans. Those who are against believe the symbols to be offensive and simplistic.
  • These poetry was usually religious, which shows us that religion played a big role in the lives of the colonists.
