One positive integer is 3 less than twice another. the sum of their squares is 233. find the integers.
lana66690 [7]
Let the two integers be x and y
x-3= 2y
x=2y+3______(1)

x²+y²= 233_____(2)
sub eqn (1) into (2)
{2y+3}²+y²=233
4y² + 12y +9 +y²=233
5y²+12y+9-233=0
5y²+12y-224=0
y= -8 or 5.6
recall they are positive integers so y=5.6
now sub y=5.6 into eqn (1)
x=2(5.6)+3 = 11.2+3=14.2

the two integers are 14.2 and 5.6

In most linear programming problems, there are two stages:
xxMikexx [17]

Answer: Bruno = 16 cans, Blaze = 14 cans

<u>Step-by-step explanation:</u>

Part A gave you the three equations.

Part B showed you the intersected points --> (16, 14), (20, 10), & (21.4, 10.7)

Part C is giving you the Cost function: C(x, y) =0.10x + 0.20y

Input the intersected points into the Cost function to find the maximum.

C(16,14) = 0.10(16) + 0.20(14)

             =    1.60      + 2.80

             =    4.40

C(20,10) = 0.10(20) + 0.20(10)

             =    2.0      + 2.00

             =    4.00

C(21.4,10.7) = 0.10(21.4) + 0.20(10.7)

                  =    2.14      + 2.14

                  =    4.28

Of the three results we just found, 4.40 is the biggest value.

So, the maximum occurs at C(16,14) = 4.40

                                                  ↓   ↓

The ratio of the length of a rectangular floor to its width is 3:2. If the length of the floor is 12 meters, what is the perimet
atroni [7]

Hi!

<h3>Let's set up a proportion and cross multiply to solve. </h3>

\frac{3}{2} \frac{12}{w}

<h3>Solve for w</h3>

2 * 12 = 24

24/3 = 8

<u>\frac{3}{2} \frac{12}{8}</u>

<h3>To find the perimeter of the floor, use this equation</h3>

<em>(l = length</em>

<em>w = width </em>

<em>p = perimeter)</em>

l + l + w + w = p

<u>12 + 12 + 8 + 8 = 40</u>

<h2>The perimeter of the floor is 40 meters. </h2>

Hope this helps! :)
