He was a great military commander. One example out of many was his conquest of Gaul. He spread the Roman Empire out, which ultimately was the start of the end of the Roman Empire, but that is besides the point.

Besides war, he passed many reforms that could be seen as good. He tried to set up a police force and also started making a calendar to go off of.
