Answer:

Both animals and fungi are heterotrophic. What distinguishes animal heterotrophy from fungal heterotrophy is that most animals derive their nutrition by ingesting materials.

Explanation:

Unlike plants, both animals and fungi are not capable of producing their own food. Organisms that cannot make their own food are termed as heterotrophs. Heterotrophs consume food by feeding on other organisms.

Both animals and fungi are heterotrophic but their mode of taking food is different. Animals tend to take in food by ingestion i.e by swallowing or absorbing. Whereas, fungi take food externally by releasing enzymes for digestion on the substrates.

Both animals and fungi are heterotrophic. What distinguishes animal heterotrophy from fungal heterotrophy is that most animals derive their nutrition by consuming other organisms.

Further explanation

Heterotrophs are organisms that need organic compounds in which carbon is extracted for growth. While heterotrophs are better known as consumers or cannot make their own food in the food chain and can only depend on others. And most heterotrophic creatures are parasites. Included in heterotrophs are all animals, fungi, and bacteria.

Heterotrophs have a variety of types, and based on the type of food, heterotrophic organisms can be divided into herbivore, omnivore, carnivore, scavenger, and also detritivore.

Types of heterotrophic organisms:

Herbivore

Herbivore is a plant-eater, at the level of the food chain, sources of missing herbivores include cows, rabbits, deer, grasshoppers, and caterpillars.

Omnivore

Omnivores are the eaters of all things, omnivore animals can also eat plants and meat.

Carnivore

Carnivore is a meat-eater. Animals that enter into the carnivore group because they prey on other animals, these animals are also referred to as predators.

Scavenger

Scavenger is an animal that eats the body of another animal that is dead or also called a scavenger.

Destritivor

Destritivor is fragments of organisms in the form of leaf fragments. Rods or pieces of animals called detritus. Detritus-eating organisms called detritivore, for example, are earthworms, soil insects and termites.
