Answer: The number gotten from the number line is 1.7,

Kindly find an attached diagram to indicate the number line.

Step-by-step explanation:

DEFINITION: The number line is a straight line with numbers found at equal intervals and it can extend to negative and positive infinity respectively. The number line provides a means of abstraction for Real Numbers and can be used for adding and subtracting.

Kindly find the attached the diagram showing the number line. Refer to the diagram to understand how the answer was derived.

STEP 1: Draw a straight line to denote the number line and attach two arrows at the extremes of the line (looking in opposite directions) to indicate the continuation of numbers extending to infinity and negative infinity respectively.

STEP 2: Find a point to denote as Zero (0) as the midpoint to start the calibration, then take equal intervals of distance to denote number points (as is shown in the drawn attachment).

Denote the intervals -2.5, -2.0, -1.5, -1.0, -0.5, 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5. 2. 2.5. 3.0

STEP 3: Draw small intervals of -0.1 and 0.1 for both the positive and negative sides of the number line.

STEP 4: Now, choose either -1.2 or 2.9,

IF -1.2 is chosen count two -0.1 intervals left of -1.0 and mark a circle indicating -1.2, then count right 29 intervals (denoting 2.9) to find the answer which is 1.7.

IF 2.9 is chosen count four 0.1 intervals right of 2.5 and mark a circle indicating 2.9, then count left 12 intervals (denoting -1.2) to find the answer which is 1.7.
