Pythagorean Theorem

Verbally:

Let's say a and b are the legs, and c is the hypotenuse. Then, algebraically, the theorem is,
3x - 2y = -16
Slope intercept form is y = mx + b, so solve it for 'y'
First subtract 3x to both sides:
-2y = -3x - 16
Now divide -2 to both sides:
y = 3/2x + 8
Factor out the GCF
12x^2(x + 1) = 0
Now you can do two parts
12x^2 = 0, x = 0
x + 1 = 0, x = -1
Solution: x = 0, x = -1
Alex is 1.6 m tall
and
Noah is 1.5 times as tall as Alex
= 1.6 m x 1.5 = 2.4m
1 m = 100 cm
2.4 m = 2.4 x 100 = 240 cm
answer
Noah is 240 cm
