describe the similarities and differences between aerobic cellular respiration and anaerobic cellular respiration
Lena [83]

Aerobic cellular respiration takes place in the presence of oxygen and anaerobic cellular respiration takes place in the absence of oxygen.

Similarities:

  • As a beginning molecule, glucose is used in both aerobic and anaerobic respiration, which is a similarity. The substrate is what you see here.
  • Additionally, both aerobic and anaerobic respiration results in the production of ATP, but aerobic respiration generates far more ATP than anaerobic respiration.
  • In both situations, food is oxidized and energy is liberated.

Differences:

  • Anaerobic respiration occurs when there is no oxygen present, whereas aerobic respiration occurs when there is oxygen.
  • Alcohol is produced by anaerobic respiration, whereas carbon dioxide and water are the byproducts of aerobic respiration.
  • Compared to anaerobic respiration, aerobic respiration produces more energy.

Explain how mutations to genes can affect traits in organisms.
Harlamova29_29 [7]

Answer:

Genetic variations that alter gene activity or protein function can introduce different traits in an organism. If a trait is advantageous and helps the individual survive and reproduce, the genetic variation is more likely to be passed to the next generation (a process known as natural selection)

Suppose a male organism has a diploid chromosome number of 6. These chromosomes could be represented as A,a, B, b, C, and c wher
KatRina [158]

Answer:

A. The haploid set of n is ABC

B. ABC, ABc, AbC, aBC, abc, abC, aBc, Abc.

Explanation:

A diploid cell is a cell that comprises of two complete sets of chromosomes. This is double the haploid chromosome number. Each pair of chromosomes in a diploid cell is noted to be a homologous chromosome set. A homologous chromosome pair consists of one chromosome donated from one parent and one from the other parent. This number is represented as 2n. It varies in different organisms. A diploid cell replicates via mitosis. It preserves its diploid chromosome number by making an identical copy of its chromosomes and distributing its DNA in an equal manner between two daughter cells.

Haploid refers to a cell that contains a single set of chromosomes. Gametes are made up of half the chromosomes contained in normal diploid cells of the body, these are also known as somatic cells. Haploid gametes are produced during meiosis. Meiosis is a type of cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes in a parent diploid cell by half.

Therefore,

Karyotype of this organism is designated as AaBbCc.

AaBbCc is the diploid set (2n).

Hence ABC or abc are the haploid set (n).

B. The eight different combinations of these chromosomes that could possibly be produced by spermatogenesis in this male are:

ABC, ABc, AbC, aBC, abc, abC, aBc, Abc.

How does strip cropping slow down rainfall from removing soil?
alex41 [277]

The growing of a cultivated crop (as corn) in strips alternating with strips of a sod-forming crop (as hay) arranged to follow an approximate contour of the land and minimize erosion.

Strip cropping helps to stop soil erosion by creating natural dams for water, helping to preserve the strength of the soil. Certain layers of plants will absorb minerals and water from the soil more effectively than others. When water reaches the weaker soil that lacks the minerals needed to make it stronger, it normally washes it away. When strips of soil are strong enough to slow down water from moving through them, the weaker soil can't wash away like it normally would. Because of this, farmland stays fertile much longer.

The term strip cropping also refers to a method of dry farming sometimes used in areas including parts of the Great Plains of the United States and the Prairies of Canada. To accumulate moisture in these dry areas, cropland is periodically left fallow. Typically, the fallow and planted areas are organized in parallel long, narrow strips that are oriented normal to the prevailing winds, in order to minimize the erosion of soil from the bare fields. Strip farming helps to prevent mass erosion by having the roots of crops hold on to the soil to prevent it from being washed away.

Hope this helps  Its because its really strong soil
