The sum of the digits in a two digit number is 14. If you reverse and double the original number, and then add the result to the
gtnhenbr [62]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the two digits be x and y, where x is the tens digit and y is the units (ones) digit.

Then the number is 10x + y.

From the question,

The sum of the digits in a two digit number is 14,

That is, x + y = 14 ....... (1)

Also, from the question,

If you reverse and double the original number, and then add the result to the original number, the sum is 222

If the number is reversed, the new number will be 10y + x; and if this is doubled, we will get 2(10y + x).

Now, if this is added to the original number (10x + y), the sum is 222.

That is,

2(10y + x) + (10x + y) = 222

Then,

20y + 2x + 10x + y = 222

12x + 21y = 222 ........ (2)

Now, we will bring the two equations together and solve simultaneously.

x + y = 14 ....... (1)

12x + 21y = 222 ........ (2)

From equation (1)

x + y = 14

Then, x = 14 - y ...... (3)

Substitute the value of x in equation (3) into equation (2)

12x + 21y = 222

12(14 - y) + 21y = 222

168 - 12y + 21y = 222

168 + 9y = 222

9y = 222 - 168

9y = 54

∴ y = 54/9

y = 6

To determine x, substitute the value of y into equation (3)

x = 14 - y

∴ x = 14 - 6

x = 8

∴ x = 8 and y = 6

Recall that, the two digits are x and y, where x is the tens digit and y is the units (ones) digit.

Hence, the original number is 86.

Lubov Fominskaja [6]

Let initially number of fishes =x

He gives 2/3 of his fish to a local high school, that is he gives 2x/3 fish .

So number of fishes left = x -(2x/3) = x/3 . And he gives 2/5 of x/3 to an elementary school , that is , he gives 2x/15 fishes to the elementary school. And finally the number of fishes left =30 , that is

x-(\frac{2x}{3}+\frac{2x}{15})=30

x-\frac{12x}{15}=30

\frac{3x}{15}=30

x = 150

So initially he have 150 fishes .

Answer:

According to an advertisement for Colgate toothpaste, 4 out of 20 Dentist prefer Colgate. There are 150 Dentist in a certain city.

Let the number of dentists prefer Colgate in the city be x

\frac{4}{20}  =  \frac{x}{150}  \\ x =  \frac{4 \times 150}{20}  \\  \boxed{x = 30}

<h3>30 dentists prefer Colgate.</h3>

Check all the equations that apply to meet the Segment Addition
Jlenok [28]

Answer:

Options (2) and (5)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given in the question,

Length of OQ = 45

OP = (6x + 5)

PQ = 4x

By segment addition postulate,

Length of a segment OQ = length of segment OP + length of segment PQ

45 = 6x + 5 + 4x

10x + 5 = 45

10x = 45 - 5

10x = 40

x = \frac{40}{10}

x = 4

Therefore, Option (2) and Option (5) are the correct options.
