When a salt crystal dissolves in a large glass of water formed the solvent molecules surround the solute ions at the molecular level.

Explanation:

Solvation is defined as the interaction of solute particles to the solvent which stabilises the solute species in solution.

If a crystal of salt is dissolved in water, each of the ions forms of the salt will surround the water molecule. The strong covalent bonds of the water molecule will pull the ions of the crystal salt into the solution. The ions formed will now be surrounded by water molecules which is dipolar. The separated ions get thoroughly mixed in the water.

Manny is using a computer model to investigate the effects of substitution mutations. The model presents Manny with a long base
Troyanec [42]

Answer:

The most likely explanation for the truncated polypeptide -due to the substitution of cytosine for adenine- is that mutation introduced a stop codon in the middle of the gene.

Explanation:

A codon consists of three nucleotides -in the RNA chain- whose order determines a specific amino acid. Not all codons code for amino acids, as there are termination codons, also called stop codons, which are UAG, UGA and UAA.

If in Manny's computer model, the substitution of cytosine by adenine produced a termination codon, the synthesis of a peptide is stopped prematurely resulting in a truncated peptide.

The PCR primer ‘D7S820’ is used to amplify the D7S820 locus. Using this gel below, determine whether each person (M1, P1, P2, C1
Ahat [919]

Answer:

1) M1 is heterozygous since it contains 2 bands, which means that it contains one recessive and one dominant allele

P1 is homozygous for this locus, since it contains a single band or is known to be homozygous for the locus or gene.

P2 is hetozygous for this locus because two bands appear in which each band represents one allele for the gene.

ChildC contains two gel bands, representing two alleles and is therefore heterozygous

P1 is the father of the child C1, if we look at the gel, each father shows a similar band, one coinciding with the mother and the second with the father p1

As for the paternity study, the PCR test is not useful, since it provides asymmetric results, thus only one strand information will be provided, and because the DNA is double-stranded, a more complete study is required.:
