In 1898, Curie discovered the existence of the element radium and polonium during their research on pitchblende she found that there is an element and named it radium.

One year after the discovery of radium, she got Nobel prize for Physics. Radium is a chemical element which lies in the group 2 of the periodic table.

Pure radium appears silvery white, but on reaction with nitrogen in air a black layer forms on it known as radium nitride.
