Answer:

45 miles per hour

Step-by-step explanation:

Mary drove 4 hours to reach her camping spot. Driving home, she increased her speed by 15 miles per hour, reducing her travel time by 1 hour. How fast did she drive going to the camping spot?

d = rt

Where,

d = distance

r = rate of speed

t = time

Going to the camping spot

d=rt

Where, t = 4 hours

d = r × 4

d = 4r (1)

Driving home

She reduced her travel time by 1 hour

That is t = 4 -1 = 3 hours

Then increased speed by 15 miles per hour

That is r = r + 15

d=rt

d = (r+15) × 3

d = 3r + 45 (2)

Equating the two equations

4r = 3r + 45

Collecting like terms

4r - 3r = 45

r = 45

r = 45 miles per hour

check:

d = 4r

d = 45*4

=180 miles

d = 3r + 45

d = 3*45 + 45

= 135 + 45

=180 miles

One number is 44 times a first number. a third number is 100 more than the first number. if the sum of the three numbers is 5385
svlad2 [7]

I take it that the actual total is 538. If it really is 538538 leave me a note.

Let the first number = x

Let the second # = 44x

Let the third # = 100x

Equation

x + 44x + 100x = 538 Add the left side. All terms are part of the total.

145x = 538 Div By 145

x = 538/145

x = 3.71

Check

First number = 3.71

Second # = 44*3.71 = 163.24

Third number = 100*3.71 = 371

Total these 3 numbers 537.95 The very tiny difference is due to rounding.

Suppose 51 % of the banks in Switzerland are private organizations.
noname [10]

Answer:

0.9689

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

banks in Switzerland are private organizations, p = 51% = 0.51

Sample size, n = 544 banks

To find:

Probability (the sample proportion of private banks will be greater than 47%)

Now,

Mean of the sample, μ = np = 544 × 0.51 = 277.44

\bar{x} = 544 × 0.47 = 255.68

Standard deviation = \sqrt{np(1-p)}

or

Standard deviation = \sqrt{544\times0.51(1-0.51)}

or

Standard deviation = 11.6595

Now,

P(\bar{x}\geq 47\%)

=  P(z\geq \frac{\bar{x}-\mu}{\sigma})

=  1- P(z\leq \frac{\bar{x}-\mu}{\sigma})

= 1- P(z\leq \frac{255.68-277.44}{11.6595})

=   1- P(z\leq -1.8662)

Now, from standard z value table, we get

= 1 -  0.031021

= 0.9689
