Answer: Constant of Proportionality = 12

===================================================

Explanation:

x = number of swimmers

y = number of laps

k = constant of proportionality

k = y/x

Use any row to find that k = 12

  • Row1: k = y/x = 240/20 = 12
  • Row2: k = y/x = 216/18 = 12
  • Row3: k = y/x = 168/14 = 12
  • Row4: k = y/x = 108/9 = 12

The direct proportion equation in the form y = kx turns into y = 12x. This means the number of laps is 12 times that of the number of swimmers. Put another way, each swimmer did 12 laps.
