1. Why do you think there are so many places to visit along the Nile River?

The many places that one can visit along the Nile River is mainly due to the early settlement of the Egyptian civilizations. This gradually led to the recent attractions Egypt has today, such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Valley of the Kings.  

2. Why did ancient Egyptians live so close to the river?

The Egyptians lived so close to the river because it aided them in their economic activities. People were in search of reliable water sources, thus they pushed themselves closer to the river. This led to the expansion of the Sahara Desert.

3. How do you think living so close to the river impacted the lives of the people?

Living closer to the river paved way to an easier access to nutrient-rich soil and this supported agriculture for the Egyptians. It is said that Nile River experienced annual flooding in the past and this contributed to such good condition of the soil. This also allowed the Egyptians to grow more crops, such as wheat and papyrus.

4. How do you think human settlements so close to the river changed the environment?

The many economic activities happening near the river contributed to pollution and depletion of resources. Since most people rely on the river for survival as well as doing businesses, the resources of the river have been severely impacted. Sewage directly flow to the area due to poor practice of sanitation. This leads to water pollution that is also responsible for killing many species of fishes.

A theme that can be applied to the topic above is "Human-environment interaction." This shows how Nile River affected the people and how the people's actions affected the river. It also shows the positive and negative impact of both to each other.

For example, Nile River blessed the people with many opportunities. It was advantageous for the people at the beginning but people's irresponsible behavior of not taking good care of the river resulted to negative impacts on them as well.
