Answer:

30 minutes

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the following :

Rita's tank contains =7.8 gallons of water

Filling rate = 2.1 gallons per minute

Wendy's tank contains = 97.8 gallons

Drain rate =. 0.9 gallons per minute

After how many minutes will both contain the same amount of water.

Let number of minutes = m

Rita is filling :

Initial + increase

7.8 + 2.1m ----(1)

Wendy is emptying:

Initial - decrease

97.8 - 0.9m - - - (2)

Equate both ;

(1) = (2)

7.8 + 2.1m = 97.8 - 0.9m

2.1m + 0.9m = 97.8 - 7.8

3m = 90

m = 90 / 3

m = 30 minutes

Y = x^2+ 7x - 5 can be written in the form y = (x + a)^2+b
BARSIC [14]

Answer:

see explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a parabola in vertex form is

y = (x - h)² + k (h, k) are the coordinates of the vertex

Given y = x² + 7x - 5

To express in vertex form use the method of completing the square

add/subtract ( half the coefficient of the x- term )²

y = x² + 2( \frac{7}{2} )x +\frac{49}{4} - \frac{49}{4} - 5

y = (x + \frac{7}{2} )² - \frac{49}{4} - \frac{20}{4}

y = (x + \frac{7}{2} )² - \frac{69}{4}

Hence

a = \frac{7}{2} and b = - \frac{69}{4}

The cost c, for manufacturing x flags is given by c=x? -24x +39. Find the number of flags manufactured if the cost is $120.
IRINA_888 [86]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  27

Step-by-step explanation:

You want to find x when c = 120.

  120 = x^2 -24x +39

  x^2 -24x -81 = 0 . . . . . . subtract 120 to put in standard form

  (x -27)(x +3) = 0 . . . . .  .factor it

Solutions are ...

  x = 27, x = -3 . . . . . values of x that make the factors zero

The number of flags manufactured for a cost of $120 is 27 flags.

I disagree with her she will spent more than that because 6×5.29=31.74$ for 6 roses+4×3.59=14.36 4carnations +8×4.79=38.32$for 4 tulips and then 31.74+14.36+38.32=84.42$ all together

Westley and Buttercup are each saving money. Westley starts with $85 in in his savings and add $5 per week (y=85+5x)
love history [14]

Answer:

After 5 weeks.

Step-by-step explanation:

Westley starts with $85 and saves $5 per week. So:

y=85+5x

Buttercup starts with $10 and saves $20 per week. So:

y=10+20x

When they have the same amount of money, the two equations will be equal to each other. Therefore:

85+5x=10+20x

Solve for x. Subtract 10 from both sides:

75+5x=20x

Subtract 5x from both sides:

75=15x

Divide both sides by 15:

x=5

Westley and Buttercup will have the same amount of money after 5 weeks.
