Active transport is the movement of molecules across the cell membrane from an area of lower concentration to an area of higher concentration. This process requires chemical energy made by the cell. Passive transport is the movement of molecules across the cell membrane from an area of higher concentration to lower concentration. This DOES NOT require chemical energy made by the cell. Here's a tip that always helped me remember this. If you are doing something active (playing a sport, etc), you are using a lot of your energy. However, if you are doing something passive (sitting on the couch, etc), you are not using your energy. It's like that with the active and passive forms of transport as well. Make sense? :)

Active transport uses energy (ATP) and passive transport does not. Active transport goes against the concentration gradient whilst passive transport does not.

Answer:

Claim 5: Cells need glucose AND oxygen to release energy.

Explanation:

A cell can be defined as the fundamental or basic functional, structural and smallest unit of life for all living organisms. Some living organisms are unicellular while others are multicellular in nature.

A unicellular organism refers to a living organism that possess a single-cell while a multicellular organism has many (multiple) cells.

Cellular respiration can be defined as a series of metabolic reactions that typically occur in cells so as to produce energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). During cellular respiration, high energy intermediates are created that can then be oxidized to make adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Therefore, the intermediary products are produced at the glycolysis and citric acid cycle stage through the breathing of oxygen used to obtain energy from the food ingested.

Hence, cells need glucose and oxygen to release energy.

Anestetic [448]
Simple cuboidal epithelium is a type of epithelium that consists of a single layer of cuboidal cells. These cuboidal cells have large, spherical and central nuclei. This type of tissue is found lining parts of organs and ducts in the body. its structure allows for absorption and diffusion in those areas. Mostly found in organs that are specialized for secretion, such as salivary glands ( part of the digestive tract) and thyroid follicles, and those that are specialized for diffusion, such as the kidney tubules.
