The top portion would be 2x2=4cm^2
To find the bottom numbers, we have one side that we know is 6, to find the other side, we know the whole side is 6 but we would subtract the 2 to make it even. That would give us 6x4. 6x4=24cm^2
Then we add both together to get the whole object’s area.
4+24=28cm^2

For the second shape, we would find the area of the large shape then find the area of the small shape. We would subtract the small shape’s area from the large shape.
8x5=40cm^2
2x3=6cm^2
40-6=34cm^2

The final answers for both shapes are 28cm^2 and 34cm^2
