Answer:

  x = 7

Step-by-step explanation:

First, you look at the equation. Identify the locations of variable terms (both sides of the equal sign) and the constant terms (both sides of the equal sign).

If there are any parentheses, it is a good idea to use the distributive property to eliminate them. Here, there are none.

I like to start by subtracting <em>the variable term with the smallest coefficient</em>. Here, that is 3x, so we add -3x to both sides of the equation.

  3x -3x +1 = 5x -3x -13

  1 = 2x -13 . . . . . . . . . . . . combine like terms

Now, we have the only variable term on one side of the equal sign. We want it by itself, so we need to make the -13 go away. We do that by adding its opposite to both sides of the equation:

  1 +13 = 2x -13 +13

  14 = 2x . . . . . . . . . . . . combine like terms

Finally, we want the coefficient of 2 in the x-term to disappear. We make that happen by multiplying both sides of the equation by 1/2, the reciprocal of that coefficient.

  (1/2)(14) = (1/2)(2x)

  7 = x . . . . the solution

__

It is generally a good idea to <em>check your work</em> by seeing if your solution value satisfies the equation:

  3(7) +1 = 5(7) -13 . . . . put 7 where x is in the original equation

  21 +1 = 35 -13

  22 = 22 . . . . . . x = 7 is the solution

_____

<em>Additional comment</em>

By subtracting 3x from 5x, the result is 2x with a positive coefficient. We could solve the equation just as easily by subtracting 5x from 3x. That result would be ...

  -2x +1 = -13

Subtracting 1 would give

  -2x = -14

and you would multiply by -1/2 to get x=7. I personally like to avoid having this many minus signs show up in the problem. That is why I choose to subtract the x-term with the smallest coefficient.

This is a continuous set of points in the coordinate plane. It can be, but is not always, straight.
castortr0y [4]

Answer:

Linear. While all linear equations produce straight lines when graphed, not all linear equations produce linear functions. In order to be a linear function, a graph must be both linear (a straight line) and a function (matching each x-value to only one y-value).

Let x be a positive integer. If (-3)ºx (-3)* = (-3)14,<br> what is x?
Nezavi [6.7K]

Answer:

-3^{\circ \:}x\left(-3\right)=\left(-3\right)\cdot \:14 : x = \frac{840}{180^{\circ \:}}

Decimal Form:

x = -267.38030...

Step-by-step explanation:

-3^{\circ \:}x\left(-3\right)=\left(-3\right)\cdot \:14

Remove Parentheses: (-a) = -a

-3^{\circ \:}x\left(-3\right)=-3\cdot \:14

Multiply the numbers: 3 * 14  = 42

-3^{\circ \:}x\left(-3\right)=-42

Divide both sides by: -3^{\circ \:}\left(-3\right)

\frac{-3^{\circ \:}x\left(-3\right)}{-3^{\circ \:}\left(-3\right)}=\frac{-42}{-3^{\circ \:}\left(-3\right)}

Simplify:

x=-\frac{840}{180^{\circ \:}}

Hope I helped. If so, may I get brainliest and a thanks?

Thank you, have a good day! =)

Answer: y    = -4x-9

Step-by-step explanation:

parallel slope means it's the same slope as the given equation

y+1=-4(x+2)

y+1 = -4x-8

Y=-3x^2+6x+c; (1,0) find C
kogti [31]
<span>Simplifying 3x2 + -6x + c = 0 Reorder the terms: c + -6x + 3x2 = 0 Solving c + -6x + 3x2 = 0 Solving for variable 'c'. Move all terms containing c to the left, all other terms to the right. Add '6x' to each side of the equation. c + -6x + 6x + 3x2 = 0 + 6x Combine like terms: -6x + 6x = 0 c + 0 + 3x2 = 0 + 6x c + 3x2 = 0 + 6x Remove the zero: c + 3x2 = 6x Add '-3x2' to each side of the equation. c + 3x2 + -3x2 = 6x + -3x2 Combine like terms: 3x2 + -3x2 = 0 c + 0 = 6x + -3x2 c = 6x + -3x2 Simplifying c = 6x + -3x<span>2</span></span>
