An elliptical clause is an adverbial in which words are missing.

An elliptical clause is a form of dependent, or subordinate, clause in which a word or some words have been left out. Generally, the missing part is a verb or verb phrase.  

An elliptical clause may be either independent or subordinate. In this sentences, due to the pattern or logic of the entire sentence, it is evident what the missing words are.
